The Entryway Foundation
About
The Entryway Foundation offers fundamental English Second Language (ESL) communication skills to adult immigrants and refugees upon their arrival in British Columbia, bridging the gap until they can access comprehensive ESL courses. This program targets adult newcomers with limited English proficiency, who face barriers to accessing traditional language learning avenues due to cost or lengthy waitlists.
This service is integral to provide, as language barriers are a significant barrier for many newcomers who often feel disconnected from their communities or are even unable to use basic communication to interact with them. Teaching these basic skills alongside key conversational phrases will be integral to building a grasp on the English language while mitigating the aforementioned factors that contribute to language-related difficulties.
Overview
The Entryway Foundation focuses on accessibility for adult immigrants and refugees, considering factors such as full-time work, health issues affecting mobility, or other obstacles to attending in-person ESL courses.
The model offers a free online course with flexible scheduling, consisting of weekly hour-long sessions that can be cancelled or rescheduled to accommodate clients' needs.
The curriculum emphasizes conversational phrases, basic grammatical structures, and principles essential for day-to-day communication, providing newcomers with a foundational understanding of the English language.
